Did you know? The colour of males and females is different: the colour of the hens is smoother, with less red colour. Young birds resemble the hens, but a green spot is visible at the back of their heads.
Watch it! Its head and crop is red, its facial feather spot is white. It has black plumage trimmed with greenish-yellow on its back and on its wings; its tail stripe is pale green. It flies relatively fast and in a wavering manner, its voice is harmonious and typical metallic tweet, its distress-signal is high-pitched and pervasive.
Habitat: Upland forests, woody savannahs
Spread: It’s native to the south-eastern part of Australia
