Did you know? The emu travels trotting, with its long legs it is able to reach 7 kms / hour while walking, and 48 kms / hour when running. Emus have three toes on each foot in a tridactyl arrangement as opposed to ostrich who has two toes on each foot. The roles have been swapped between females and males when it comes to parent the offspring. Hatching is always the duty of the males. Females usually stay in the area and defend the area aggressively.
Watch it! The upper part of their neck is black, their head is blue. The long distant drumming sound is the typical voice of them, which can be heard in breeding season and which is amplified by their long blowed-up respiratory diverticulum.
