All-day program at the zoo
Our zoo welcomes school and kindergarten groups every day of the year, who can not only take part in a zoo walk or an unusual science lesson, but also be part of a full-day, event-packed program, which our colleagues will take care of organizing.
While walking through the constantly renewing zoo, classes can discover the wildlife of distant lands, from North America to Africa and Australia. The children are guided around by expert instructors, who can also help them get a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes secrets of keeping and caring for the animals.
Unfortunately, during our events and on public holidays, weare unable to hold class trip programs. Thank you for yourunderstanding!
Possible programs for the class trip
Guided tour and lesson: As part of the excursion, you can take part in an interactive, thematic group guidance session and/or an unusual natural science lesson. For details, please visit the Zoopedagogy – Group Guidance and Lessons menu!
The zoo tour is enhanced by “Zarzura, the Lost Oasis”, the zoo’s interactive Sudanese playground built in 2014, which introduces children to the world of the Sahara. They can learn about the Cave of the Swimming People and the Nile River, from its source all the way to the delta. While playing among the sand dunes and under the palm trees, they can see László Almásy’s crashed plane. During play, children also learn about the life of László Almásy, the African researcher and explorer, and the story of how birds guided him to Zarzura, the oasis believed to be lost.
In addition to Zarzura, visitors can explore the world of Madagascar, a small island off the coast of Africa. At the Csarnok Playhouse, which opened in October 2022, classes can meet an ever-growing number of fascinating animals in person. Under the guidance of a professional group leader, children can handle and pet animals such as Buksi the boa, Matilda and Mango the bearded dragons, Charley the tarantula, and members of our popular indoor guinea pig train, including Kócos, Mázlis, and Mák. After the professional excursion, children can burn off energy on the bouncy castles in the jungle playhouse.
Additionally, they can participate in show feedings and animal training programs, and of course, in the ZooShow – animal show. These experiences and interactive shows help open children’s emotional world to animals and their environment; once children can hold and get to know animals personally, they are more likely to care for them. The zoo therefore offers more than just a class trip—it provides an experiential learning opportunity.
