Class trip

con_email

A successful class trip is not memorable because of how much information is shared, but because of how engaging and experience-driven it is.
That’s exactly where we can truly help you: we provide shared experiences that children will remember for a long time — and that can later be built on back at school.

An Easy-to-Organize, Meaningful Class Trip – All in One Place

At the Xantus János Zoo, we offer a full-day program where children can truly enjoy themselves while learning naturally along the way.
During a day at the zoo, shared experiences, discovery, and play are organically connected with learning — and that’s exactly what stays with children the longest.
Even if you are only planning a shorter visit, it is worth knowing that:

  • the zoo can be visited freely during opening hours without prior registration
  • full-day program options are available for different age groups
  • children learn through observing live animals, which — according to English researchers as well — helps knowledge stick better than traditional classroom information
  • the programs develop attention, cooperation, and empathy

One of the greatest strengths of zoo education is that it teaches through emotional connection: what children experience, touch, or truly live through, they are more likely to care for later — whether animals or the environment around them.

What Will You Experience Here? – Flexible Programs at Your Own Pace

A successful zoo day combines shared experiences with enough time for free exploration. Here, you can easily balance both.

Interactive Guided Tours

Led by experienced zoo educators, children observe, ask questions, think together, and discover the animal world collaboratively.
Programs include:

  • guided discussions and playful tasks
  • age-appropriate content
  • connections to school curriculum

Experience-based learning encourages deeper understanding and active participation.

Guided Tour Themes (upon prior arrangement):
“Basic Tour” - flexible exploration among the animals without a specific theme
“Historical Tour”  - the history of the zoo and its animal collection from the 1960s to today (ideal for history enthusiasts)
“Continents”  – Africa, America, Asia
“What Does It Eat?” – food chains and biodiversity at the Győr Zoo
“Crawlers, Swimmers, Climbers” - the terrarium house and the Hall’s animal world
“Favorite Animals”  - the class’s chosen favorites
“Our Relatives, the Primates”- the story of humankind (recommended for older students and secondary school groups)
“African Giants in Danger” - the story of the helicopter and the rhinoceros (recommended for older students and secondary school groups)

Maximum group size: 30 participants

Hands-On Experiences
In the Hall Playhouse, children can safely meet animals up close, including:

  • snakes, agamas, tarantulas
  • pettable small animals

These experiences reduce fear, strengthen curiosity, and encourage acceptance.

Possible Programs During the Class Trip

Themed Playgrounds and Adventures

  • Zarzura – The Lost Oasis: part playground, part adventure story
  • discovering the world of Madagascar
  • goat playground— one of the zoo’s funniest and most interactive playgrounds. The animals living here are playful, friendly, and guaranteed to interact with children — they might even join them on the slides.
  • movement, play, and role-playing activities

Learning through play is especially effective for younger children and kindergarten groups, as movement and imagination help maintain attention and engagement.

Many groups also choose to bring their own food and eat together during designated rest periods — this works especially well with younger children, as familiar routines provide a sense of comfort and security.

Xantus János Állatkert
9027 Győr, Kiskút liget 1/A

By Car
We offer a large free parking area for visitors.

By Bus
The zoo has its own bus parking area, allowing groups arriving by charter bus to park conveniently and safely near the entrance.

By Public Transport
Arriving by train?
It is worth getting off at Gyárváros railway station, from where the zoo can even be reached with a pleasant walk.

If you are arriving from downtown Győr or the central railway station:

Buses 8 and 8Y stop directly at the zoo entrance — the easiest and most convenient option for groups.
The area around the zoo is easily accessible by several buses from the city center (e.g. Révai Miklós Street, City Hall area).
Buses 11, 11Y, and 14 stop near ETO Park / Audi Arena, followed by about a 10-minute walk to the zoo.
Buses run regularly throughout the day, making both arrival and departure easy to plan

A Special Opportunity: Arrive by Boat!
Sightseeing boats departing from downtown Győr, the city of rivers, stop near the zoo.

This is not just transportation — it is a program in itself:

  • discover the city from a different perspective
  • observe the wildlife along the riverside
  • make the journey itself a shared experience
