- The second largest species of monitor lizard in the world. They are highly intelligent animals and in the wild they use a variety of foraging techniques, such as burying found prey to return and eat later.
- Its movement is a bit jerky, which is why it has been nicknamed "Dönci" at our zoo. There are wide "shields" on the top of the head, above the eyes. A black "band" runs along the length of the temples of the upper body
