Reproduction

The female reaches sexual maturity at 4-5 years and the male at 7-8 years. The mating season lasts all year round. Gestation lasts 450-470 days. It gives birth to one calf at a time

• Black rhinos are very nervous in temperament and can be quite aggressive and would react by attacking the threat. They move easily on the savannas, even if their spatial vision is very poor. However, they have excellent sene of smell and hearing, which alert them to the presence of other animals or humans.
• This species can grow the longest horn, with a record of 1.5m. It also uses it to dig up roots from the ground or break branches to get more valuable food in scrubby areas
