- They have an extremely strong, armour-like covering – hence their older name: armoured reptiles. They have closed nostrils on the higher part of the head, like their eyes, so they can stay underwater while still being able to see everything above the surface and breathe
- Dwarf crocodiles grow to only 1.5 metres and have a characteristically short, blunt snout. The tail acts as an oar in the water. It's the smallest species in the crocodilian family
