- The emu travels by "trotting". With its long legs, it can walk at a speed of up to 7 km/h. When running away, it reaches a speed of 48 km/h.
- It has three toes as opposed to the two-toedfeet of ostriches. In emus, the roles of the sexes are reversed in terms of offspring care. Spawning is only the responsibility of males. Females often stay in the area and aggressively guard the territory.
- The upper part of their neck is black, their head is blue. Their characteristic sound heard during themating season is the distant "drumming", which is amplified by their long, inflated air sacs.
