Hermann’s tortoise is one of the most popular land turtles kept as a pet. - They hibernate during winter and dig themselves out of their winter homes in spring.
At this time of year they are hungry, moving around a lot, gorging on fresh, vitamin-rich shoots and basking in the spring sun. - Their carapace (back shell) is highly curved, oval, their breast plate is flat (concavein case of male animals), their base colour is ochre yellow, with dark spots of different sizes. Some individuals may lack patterning.
