• Very closely related to the Greek tortoise, they are easily confused. The easiest way to tell them apart is to look at the shield above the tail. In case of the Greek tortoise the shield is divided, while for Mediterranaean Spur-Thighed tortoise is undivided.
• Its armour can be of many different colours and patterns. 
  Sometimes the dark and light parts blend together, sometimes they are sharply separated
