Reproduction
It is a monogamous species, i.e. a male mates with only one female and they stay together for the rest of their lives. The chicks hatch from two, rarely three eggs in 38-42 days.

- The only penguin species found in Africa. African penguins can be found on the coasts of South Africa and surrounding islands. The penguins' waterproof, thick plumage keeps the birds warm even when they are foraging in cold water.
- The pattern of black dots on the penguin's abdomen is unique to each specimen, just like the fingerprints on humans. The bare pink skin above their eyes plays a role in their thermoregulation.
