Zarzura playground

Between 2013 and 2017, the zoo developed a five-yeardevelopment concept to appropriately celebrate its 50th anniversary on May 1, 2017. One of the milestones of thedevelopment program was the construction of a thematicplayground, which is based on the story of "Zarzura, the LostOasis."

The Sahara-themed interactive playground in the park is inspired by the oasis discovered by László Almásy in theLibyan Desert. The location transports children into the worldof the Sahara, where they can explore the "Cave of theSwimming People" and the Nile River, symbolized bypebbles, from its source to the delta. While playing under thepalm trees and amidst the sand dunes, children can also seeAlmásy’s crashed airplane. Through the play experience, theycan learn the story of how birds guided Almásy to Zarzura, thelost oasis.

Zarzura is open year-round, with the zoo's opening hours inthe summer and extended hours for the Hall in the winter.

Hall Playhouse
The Győr Zoo takes us on a journey to Madagascar in thisexhibition space, where we can both learn and have fun. And the company is also quite impressive: King Julien, Melman, Gloria, Marty, Alex the lion, and of course, the unforgettablepenguin quartet are all waiting for us. The Hall is designed toresemble a ship, swaying between the coasts of Madagascarand Africa, with a cargo of exotic animals. From the windowsof the ship, we are treated to a wonderful view: the inhabitantsof the African savannas roam their spacious enclosures. Downstairs, in the play area, children's entertainment is guaranteed, and we can follow their every move even fromabove, from the café, with a cup of coffee in hand.

The exotic wildlife aboard the Hall ship is even hands-on! Request assistance from our animators and animal keepers atthe petting zoo: drape a snake around your neck, hold a frog, pet a guinea pig, or participate in the expert cosmetictreatment provided by the doctor fish!

The Tapizoo, located in the Csarnok, is open year-round tovisitors. This unique exhibit offers a rare opportunity toexplore questions we've always been curious about: How longis a lion's canine tooth? How many neck vertebrae does a giraffe have? What exactly is a "sültüske"? What’s the difference between hay and straw? In the Tapizo, we canexamine animal remains and conduct exciting experiments, while the interactive games allow us to test the knowledge we've gathered at the zoo.

Identification of Animals and Plants
Identification plaques are provided for the animals and plants, but if you want more detailed information, feel free to ask theanimators in the Pavilion. The remains can be examinedthrough various themes, such as: diet, size, skin covering, intelligence, leg structure, antlers-horns-tusks...

Some of the skulls, bones, and skins on display belonged toformer zoo residents, while others were donated to us as gifts. After their passing, these relics were preserved for educationalpurposes, allowing you to explore them up close today.

The collection pieces can be touched and their surfacesstroked, and under supervision, some can even be held inyour hands.
On the table, arranged in order of diet from right to left, wefirst encounter herbivores. Starting with the giraffe, variousparts are displayed (skull, neck vertebrae, tail hair...), and aswe move leftward, we can compare the Nile hippopotamuswith the pygmy hippopotamus, observe wild boar and camelspecimens, and examine the teeth of the world's largest rodent. Finally, we encounter an omnivore and then a predator.

Finally, the foundation of the food chain is represented: plants. With two acacia tree stumps, we can get to know trees, as wellas examine the main ingredients of animal feed. If that isn’tenough, we can face ourselves through the help of Karl, thedisplayed model skeleton.
Of course, there will also be plenty of arthropods and reptiles. On the interactive play table, we can touch exoskeletons and snake skins.

Here is the true treasure trove of experiences, where all of oursenses can finally be activated! You can touch everything, smell everything, and see everything! Get ready, set, touch!

Goat Yard
The popular outdoor petting zoo underwent a major renovation in 2024. Here, we can test our climbing and balancing skills. And if we feel like stepping off the path, wecan watch the goats play joyfully below us, and even pet them. This is how our favorite goat petting area has transformed intoa goat playground.
