The Győr Zoo is the perfect destination for a day trip—and even more. Here fun, learning, and wildlife conservation come together.
Our goal is to bring you closer to the animal world while actively participating in international species conservation programs and environmental education. During our programs, you can observe the animals up close, and in some experiences, even interact with them directly.
Our zoo also serves as an excellent starting point for a multi-day adventure in and around Győr. Győr is a city of connections: three rivers meet here, and history, nature, and urban experiences all come together. When visiting Győr, it’s worth spending several days exploring the area—from the baroque city center to the nearby thermal baths, and all the way to nature-rich zoo experiences.

Arrive by Boat!
One of Győr’s unique features is the river system that weaves through the city. The Xantus János Zoo can even be reached by water, which in itself is a special experience. Traveling along the river lets you discover Győr from a completely new perspective: you can see the bridges, the historic city center, and the riverside landscape, while also experiencing the local wildlife. In this way, the boat ride is not just a means of transportation but a unique urban adventure that makes your visit to the zoo memorable from the very moment you arrive.

Baroque City Center – a walk in the city of rivers
Győr’s historic center is one of Hungary’s most beautiful baroque city cores. Surrounded by the Mosoni-Danube and Rába rivers, the city center welcomes you with charming squares, cobblestone streets, narrow alleys, and historic buildings.
Stroll through the small streets, explore hidden courtyards, and enjoy the riverside panorama!
View from the Bishop’s Castle Tower
From the tower of the Bishop’s Castle on Kapitány Hill, you can enjoy a unique view over Győr. From here, you can clearly see the historic city center, the confluence of the rivers, and the city’s distinctive layout.

Győr also offers programs for those who enjoy active leisure.
The UNI GYŐR FUN RUN is a special recreational sports event series held every Saturday. The event is open and free for everyone, regardless of age or fitness level.
Available distances: 5 km run, 10 km run, 5 km walk, 20 km cycling on designated routes.
It’s a great way to add some activity to your weekend in the city.
