Invitation from our colleagues (and video presented at the Joint AAZV-EAZWV Conference in September)

The wonderful city of Győr is nestled at the crossroads of East and West - a city with over a thousand years of history. Perfectly positioned between three capitals, it's easily accessible by air. Győr is the third richest city in the country in terms of monuments and the restored Baroque city centre of Győr is considered a jewel of Baroque architecture ( learn more about Győr here). Beyond its strategic location, Győr is surrounded by treasures like the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Pannonhalma and the stunning Fertő-Hanság National Park. Győr Zoo are proud to collaborate with the national park on several projects dedicated to protecting our local wildlife.

Győr is not just about history and nature, though. It is a vibrant city full of life and innovation. And right at its heart is Zoo Győr (Xantus János Állatkert) - Hungary’s leading tourist attraction. As a proud member of EAZA since 2012, our zoo is home to 130 species and over 1,300 individuals, cared for by three dedicated veterinarians. At this conference, we are excited to showcase the incredible work that takes place behind the scenes at Zoo Győr, from our veterinary procedures to animal training workshops. Conservation is also a key part of our mission. Locally, we are involved in wildlife rescue efforts, and globally, we are active in in-situ conservation projects in Tanzania, focusing on wildlife rescue and mitigating human-wildlife conflict.
We also have a fruitful partnership with the University of Győr, where we deliver lectures and hands-on training for students in animal welfare, conservation, and tourism. So, whether you are here to learn, network, or simply enjoy the conference, we invite you to explore everything Zoo Győr has to offer. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Conference Venue

The conference will be held at the Eto Park Hotel in Győr, a few meters away from Zoo Győr.The Eto Park Hotel boasts an ample and comfortable conference area, and 100+ rooms - BOOK YOURS SOON! The Staff at Eto Park Hotel look forward to greeting the ZWHC attendees and helping make the conference a success!The hotel is reachable by public transportation, but also offers parking facilities for its clients. Around the corner from the Hotel is Eto Park shopping center, with a range of shops, including convenience store, supermarket, pharmacy and several food shops and restaurants.

Travelling to Győr

Győr is a little over 100 km from both Vienna and Budapest, two major international flight hubs, and has hourly direct trains to both Budapest and Vienna city centers.

Győr is very easy to reach by train, and is served by hourly trains travelling between Vienna and Budapest. Long distance train options include the ÖBB NightJet trains running to Amsterdam, Berlin, Hamburg, Milan, Paris, Rome and Zürich among other destinations.

Vienna and Budapest airports are major international hubs, with direct daily flights from all over Europe and the world. Also, flying in to Vienna allows you to comfortably reach Győr by train (see above).

Public transport in Győr

Győr has a robust public bus network. Buses 8, 8y, 13 and 14 are best suited to reach the Zoo & the Conference Venue.

Tickets can be bought at the vending machines by the bus stops (including a 10-ticket pack [Gyűjtőjegy (10 db)] or onboard the bus (cash-only & more expensive).
