- Ball python is a small sized giant snake, smallest of the African pythons.
During the dry season, in the daytime it hides in underground burrows dug by mammals, while at night it hunts small vertebrates, mainly rodents. - Its vision is poor, relying mainly on the heat-sensing organ in its mouth. Its characteristic defence is to curl up into a ball, with its head and neck tucked away in the middle.
- They can also be rolled and pushed, hence their English name (ball python). It is a peaceful, retiring animal, as evidenced by its characteristic behaviour. Their pattern is distinctive: a brown background with yellow oval patches.
- This small member of the python family has a stockier build, stronger muscles and tougher scaly skin than the rest of the family.
